The METc BEBO in Assen and METc UMCG in Groningen formally started exploring a possible collaboration between both committees in the short term and a possible integration in the future as of October 31, 2025. The declaration of intent has been signed by both committees, plus the BEBO Foundation, and the Board of Directors of the UMCG. It is being investigated whether a strong regional committee (“hub”) can be set up in the Northern Netherlands. In addition, this development contributes to the proposed centralization of the Central Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects (CCMO). METc UMCG previously took over the research files from METc Isala in Zwolle and from the Regional Review Committee for Patient-related Research (RTPO) in Leeuwarden.
